“My Dad used to play guitar and sing Beatles songs,” said Prouty, a student at Marblehead High School. “Ever since I’ve been interested in music. I’ve been performing since I was 5 years old in church, nursing homes, private camps, Hampton Beach, Higher Ground in Vermont and The Hard Rock Café in Boston.”
Prouty said she loves rock and especially “artists with a rough edge to their music.” Rounding out the band are three male friends, Cam Pelkey, from Marblehead, Andy Covino, from Swampscott, and Cody Nilsen, from Wilmington. Stations already broadcasting their music range from WAAF to WBCN.
“I love living right near the ocean,” Prouty said. “It’s so relaxing. Marblehead is also very supportive of the arts.”
In 1987, “Community Auditions: Star of the Day” became the longest-running entertainment series in television history, after 37 continuous years of song, dance, magic and comedy. On each episode, three performers compete to become the “Star Of the Day” and thus eligible for prizes ranging from a car to the production of their own showcase CD by Bob Johnston, who has produced million-selling albums for such artists as Bob Dylan, Johnny Cash, Willie Nelson and Simon and Garfunkel. Contestants are rated by a three-judge panel made up of radio DJs, record producers and other entertainment experts. Added to their opinions are those of the studio audience and viewers at home. Home viewers can support their hometown heroes by voting online at www.communityauditions.com. The series has launched a wide variety of talent, ranging from comedienne Sarah Silverman to actor Scott Grimes of “E.R.”
